Clach na Briton or the stone of the Britons, can be found
above the railway line, the opposite side of the A82 Glasgow to Inverness road to the "Falls of Falloch" waterfall. It is
the huge stone structure that marks the point where the three kingdoms of Scotland met, these were Strathclyde, Dalriada and
Pictland. It has in the past been called "The Mortar Stone" as its shape is reminiscent of a piece of heavy artillery, against
the skyline. It is of real historical interest, and is a fairly easy walk over farmland.
If you park at the car park for the falls, cross the A82,
and look for the gate, which gives you access to a rough farm track, which takes you to an underpass for the west highland
railway line. After this follow the farmers track up the hill and to the right for about 1’000m it is at roughly 235m
above sea level and the coordinates are
N 56° 21.464 W 004° 41.579 A pleasant walk over damp to wet
ground so wear boots or wellies.
